Maintenance Gardener

The Growing Cycle provides garden care by bicycle around Naarm/Melbourne's inner north. As we see continued demand for our services, we are seeking an experienced Maintenance Gardener to join our small but growing team. As a Maintenance Gardener, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality garden maintenance services to our residential and commercial clients.

We care for Northsider's gardens as if they were our own, and care about our planet in the way we go about it. We utilise renewable energies - our operations are conducted on electric cargo bike and our tools are powered with battery electric technology. We are hyperlocal, small scale and practice organic gardening methods.

The role is approximately 20hrs per week, working both independently and in pairs. Based in Thornbury, typical work hours are 8.30am-4.30pm. Ideal availability is Tues, Thurs and Fri. Strong potential to become a full time role into the future, or remain part-time if preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform garden maintenance tasks, including weeding, mowing, trimming, pruning, hedging, tidying, and occasional softscaping tasks.

  • Operate electric cargo bikes and utilise battery-powered tools for garden care activities.

  • Use mobile devices for scheduling, record keeping, and route planning.

  • Adhere to organic gardening practices and promote sustainable and environmentally friendly approaches.

  • Maintain and care for battery electric tools and equipment used in garden care activities.

  • Communicate effectively with team members, clients, and the public.

  • Adapt to various outdoor environments and weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years experience in garden care or horticulture, preference for residential experience.

  • Qualifications highly regarded.

  • Two working references.

  • Punctuality and reliability in fulfilling assigned tasks.

  • Can-do attitude and ability to find enjoyment in every task.

  • Ability to undertake physical work in diverse weather conditions.

  • Proficiency in cycling and comfortable navigating bike lanes.

  • Comfortable using online technologies and mobile devices.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Working With Children Check or willingness to obtain one.

  • Knowledge of or interest in sustainable gardening practices is highly desirable.

Remuneration

This position is in line with the Gardening and Landscaping Services Award [MA000101]. Remuneration reflective of experience and responsibilities. Indicative casual rate $31.19/hr. Superannuation 12%.
